Why no chemicals
The lighting effect comes from food-grade starch and flour, not a combustible impregnation. That means no lighter-fluid smell and no aftertaste in your food. This is the key difference from imported "self-lighting" charcoal soaked in flammable liquid.
Environment
The charcoal is wood-based, the packaging is molded pulp. Nothing plastic, no chemical lighter fluid. The box burns away completely along with the charcoal.
